Hit-and-run accidents can occur at any time and in any place, and no one is immune to those dangers, including police officers. As of this morning, Boca Raton officials are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle that struck a Boca Raton detective as he was investigating a robbery from earlier in the evening that left him in critical but stable condition at a local hospital.
According to the Sun-Sentinel:
“Delray Beach police today released photographs from a surveillance camera at Rasheed’s convenience store about a mile south of the crash scene. The footage was captured just minutes before Detective Christian Mammarella, 33, was struck at 10:44 p.m.
Mammarella was one of three Boca Raton detectives who were searching a parking lot at the 100 Linton Towers building, near the intersection of Linton Boulevard and South Dixie Highway, for evidence of an earlier strong-arm robbery in Boca Raton.
Mammarella was searching closer to the road, Messer said. The two other detectives in the parking lot heard the crash, looked around and saw the car as it continued north.
They were able to identify it as a dark-colored Volkswagen with wraparound headlights.”
The detective remains in intensive care, and thankfully he’s expected to pull through this situation and survive. As stated above, these sorts of accidents occur with troubling frequency, and if you or someone you love has been injured in such a situation, you need the help of Boca Raton accident lawyers who understand how to properly and zealously fight for the rights of injured clients.
