“The Florida Highway Patrol has released the name of a homeless pedestrian killed early Thursday morning on the exit ramp off southbound Interstate 95 at Southwest 10th Street.

The victim, Richard D. Daniels, 74, originally from Huntington, W.Va., was struck and killed as a tractor-trailer was making a right turn onto Southwest 10th Street, FHP said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer had stopped at the intersection and was making a right turn when he felt a bump from the right rear of the trailer. Daniels was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident was reported to FHP shortly after 2 a.m. The driver was identified as Calvin B. Rhoden, 52, of Okeechobee.”

“His driver’s license was suspended 19 times since 2000. He was twice designated a habitual traffic offender. Yet Paul Paraison still was on the road Monday, when a Broward Sheriff’s deputy charged him with an October hit-and-run fatality.

Deputies said Martinez was being driven home on Oct. 16 by Jacinto Matias, 27, also of Pompano Beach. As Matias slowed to turn into the 500 block of Southwest Third Street, he was rear-ended by a 2006 Dodge Charger. The crash sent Matias’ van into a palm tree and ejected Martinez, who was killed. Matias was injured.”

“A 65-year-old man is recovering after being injured when a car crashed into a bagel shop around lunchtime Wednesday.

Daniel Rothman, of Pompano Beach, was in good condition at North Broward Medical Center on Thursday, hospital officials said.

A Toyota Solara driven by Lessie Williams Bryant, 76, crashed into the Bagel Snack Restaurant and Deli at 1235 S. Pompano Parkway about noon, said Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mike Jachles.

Bryant, also of Pompano Beach, was taken to the hospital. He has since been released.”

“Authorities have identified the 20-year-old man who died after his car flipped into a canal Thursday evening in suburban Boca Raton.

Nicholas R. Rozs, a community college student, crashed about 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Military Trail and Champion Way. When rescue crews arrived, the vehicle was submerged in about 10 feet of water, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Teri Barbera said.

A report released Friday indicates Rozs was headed south on Military Trail when he came up behind another vehicle headed in the same direction. Rozs was forced to brake to avoid hitting the other car, but in the process he struck the guard rail and the Mercedes he was driving flipped over the guardrail and into the canal.”

“A Boynton Beach man died at Delray Medical Center Saturday morning after a traffic crash last week in the 800 block of West Boynton Beach Boulevard, police said.

Victim Joseph Williams, 28, was on his motorcycle Tuesday afternoon heading eastbound toward the intersection of Northwest Eighth Street when an Isuzu Rodeo made a left turn in front of him, police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater said. Williams dropped his motorcycle and slid across the roadway.

Sergio Herrera-Pena, the driver of the Isuzu, struck the motorcycle, drove over Williams and left the scene, Slater said. Officers found Herrera-Pena, 32, of Lake Worth, less than five minutes later in the 700 block of Northwest First Avenue, still in the vehicle.

Herrera-Pena, who has never been issued a driver’s license, was arrested and originally charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and no driver license issued causing serious bodily injury. When Williams died, the charge was upgraded to leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, Slater said.”

“A 44-year-old Boca Raton woman was arrested in a September fatal hit and run case.

Loren Mark Clobes, 60, of Pompano Beach, was riding his bicycle about 2:30 a.m. Sept. 20 in the 8000 block of North Federal Highway in Boca Raton when he was hit by a Cadillac, police said.

Instead of stopping, the 2007 Cadillac Escalade driven by Tonya Meccariello, continued south, police said.

Clobes died at the scene.

An anonymous tipster called in information about the vehicle, which police say led to Meccariello.

Meccariello told detectives she didn’t know she hit someone.

“Awe man, something hit my headlight,” Meccariello told a friend after getting home and seeing the damage.”

“The 16-year-old who died, along with two young friends, after putting his car into reverse and driving into a canal last year was impaired after smoking a large amount of marijuana, police said Thursday.

The teens were celebrating their school’s Homecoming when they got into a fender bender on University Drive. Maxey then put the car in reverse, driving it 250 feet before plunging into a canal near Broken Woods Drive, Coral Springs police said.

Toxicology reports by two separate labs showed Maxey’s blood contained a high level of THC, the main psychoactive substance in marijuana.The teen, who was driving with a learner’s permit, should have had a licensed driver at least 21 years old in the passenger seat, according to state driving laws.”

“A 20-year-old Boca Raton man died Friday night when the car in which he was riding turned in front of a van west of the city, authorities said.

James Rugieri was pronounced dead at the scene at the intersection of Military Trail and Camino Real, said Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. “A bicyclist appeared to be seriously injured when a car struck him Monday morning in Pompano Beach, witnesses said.

The crash happened about 7 a.m. as a Hyundai Sonata that was traveling in an eastbound lane of West Sample Road collided with the bicycle near the intersection of Northwest Fifth Terrace, witnesses said.

As of 8 a.m., most of the eastbound lanes near the crash site were closed while officials investigated. The driver of the car stopped and spoke with deputies after the crash.

Corey Hoffses, 47, said that the driver appeared to have had the green light when the car passed through the intersection. He said the bicyclist was bleeding from the head after the accident, and Hoffses and another man later prayed for the man.”

“Authorities are investigating a four-vehicle crash involving a Broward sheriff’s deputy on Interstate 95 near Atlantic Boulevard on Friday afternoon. No one was seriously hurt.
