When someone gets behind the wheel of a vehicle and moves into traffic, that person always encounters some form of risk.  No one is immune from these dangers, including police officers.  One local deputy found this out this afternoon when he was involved in a four-car crash in Pompano Beach.  Luckily, no one appears to have been seriously injured at this point, but investigators are attempting to piece together what led to the accident. Boynton Beach Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Vehicle

Pedestrians always encounter risks when they take to the streets, even if they are following all of the relevant traffic laws and behaving in a way that’s cautious and properly defensive.  The problem that arises is that a lapse of attention or judgment by someone behind the wheel of a moving vehicle for even one second can prove to be extremely dangerous or even fatal.  Tragically, that could be what led to the death of a woman in Boynton Beach recently as she was struck and killed as she crossed the road. Woman Charged with Manslaughter for Carbon Monoxide Deaths

Several months ago, we posted about a tragic case of two young girls being killed by carbon monoxide poisoning stemming from a vehicle parked in the garage of the home where they were sleeping.  At the time, it authorities did not suspect foul play, but apparently something has changed, as the mother of one of the girls who was killed has been charged with manslaughter as a result of this situation. Two Boynton Beach Girls Hit and Killed by SUV

Some tragedies are so difficult to endure that they transcend any sort of news or reporting, and many of these types of situations involve children.  Unfortunately, this appears to be what happened in Boynton Beach on Sunday afternoon when two girls who were riding electric motor scooters were hit by an SUV.  Both girls were killed, and what’s worse, the driver of the SUV did not stop. Coral Springs Youth Pastor Charged with Sex Crimes

Those who belong to a church of almost any kind and who live a life of faith understand that with such a choice comes the placement of a high degree of trust in those who are charged with helping us and our families live the best life possible in accordance with those beliefs.  Unfortunately, situations can arise that tear away at that deep level of trust and that leave victims of wrongdoing in a position that forces them to tackle an arduous recovery process.  This appears to be the case, allegedly, with a youth pastor in Coral Springs. Bicyclist Killed After Being Hit By a Car

Bicyclists and cars must share the roads on a regular basis, and the majority of the time, these different modes of transportation coexist without incident.  However, when these two types of vehicles collide, the results are not only quite predictable, but often nothing short of tragic.  That’s exactly what played out over the weekend when a man on a bicycle was killed after being hit by a car. Area Teens Lead Effort to Ban Texting While Driving

The issue of texting while driving is one that has reached national levels in terms of attention, and as of today 17 states have banned the practice because of the obvious dangers it causes.  However, Florida is not one of those states.  Distracted drivers are always a risk on the road, particularly when those distracted drivers are teens, who also happen to be the most avid texters around.   Now comes word that some teens in nearby Parkland are working to push towards a texting ban in their county. Plastic Surgeon Sued After 18-Year-Old Patient Dies

Plastic surgery is generally seen as safe and relatively minor in terms of the difficulty involved with common procedures. While this is certainly not the case, as any surgical procedure comes with risk, it seems to be rare that we hear of a patient dying during a procedure. Tragically, that’s what happened to a local teenager recently, and in response, the girl’s parents have sued the doctor. (more…)

Police Asking for Witness Help in Deadly Bicycle-SUV Crash

Many times when a hit-and-run accident occurs, it takes some time to locate the driver of the vehicle in question and to obtain statements and evidence from the driver and other sources regarding the particular facts that led to the accident. In response to a tragic and deadly accident between an SUV and a bicycle over the weekend, the driver has been found and is cooperating with police, but authorities are still seeking input from any witnesses to continue to piece together the events that led to this result. $25,000 Reward Offered in Hit-and-Run Case of Detective

We posted recently about a terrible hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a detective. At the time, and as is often the case with these sorts of accidents, the driver of the vehicle in question had not been identified. Many times witnesses and other tools are used to locate the driver. In regards to this case, however, the driver has yet to be found three weeks later, and local police have decided to offer a reward for help solving the case. (more…)
